Local group buys Seattle farm team
By SCN Staff
TACOMA, Wash. - The Tacoma Rainiers, the Triple-A affiliate of the Seattle Mariners, are being sold to a Dallas group that owns the Texas Tornado and has an ownership share in another club, officials say.
Schlegel Sports Group, which is paying an undisclosed price for the club, plans to sign a new lease to remain at Cheney Stadium and to renew the affiliation with the Mariners, Rainiers general manager Dave Lewis said in Friday's editions of The News Tribune.
"Their plans are to keep it in Tacoma," Lewis said. "They're happy with the market. They're happy both with the current conditions and with our affiliation."
Lewis said the prospective owners have approval from the Pacific Coast League.
