CCCC professor faces pornography charge
By CORINA MILLER, Contributing writer
A professor faces felony a charge of possession/promotion of child pornography after Collin County Community College District staff members discovered pornographic images on his work computer.
Frisco police received word that John Preston Creech, 57, of Allen possessed sexually explicit images of young girls on Aug. 21, according to an arrest warrant they issued.
Information technology staff members found the images and bookmarked sites after Creech called the college's IT help desk, according to the warrant. Discovery of the images prompted college officials to dismiss Creech on Aug. 29.

College officials said his actions violated college policies.
"We terminated him for a direct violation of his faculty contract, our 'Appropriate Use of Technology and Information Resources' policy, and our college's core values. We confiscated his computer and other information and turned the matter over to the Frisco Police Depart-ment," Kim Russell, CCCCD director of human resources, wrote in a statement.
Russell also noted that Creech has appealed his termination and that the college will "continue to cooperate fully with the authorities as the investigation continues."
The warrant stated that Creech phoned CCCCD's help desk on Aug. 18 to report that his computer was sluggish. Upon examination, staff discovered that an unusual amount of unapproved start-up programs had been installed on Creech's computer and that the temporary Internet file folder was "unusually large." The technician found site listings in the folder that, according to the warrant, "appeared to be pornographic in nature."
IT staff seized Creech's computer for further inspection and located "pictures and short videos depicting young females presented in a 'lascivious' manner ... ," as well as site listings that led to pornographic sites displaying images of girls between the ages of 9 and 18, the warrant read.
Creech has stated that the files were downloaded for research purposes, but college President Cary Israel said that the professor was not performing any authorized research at CCCCD, nor had he published any academic paper or taken any sabbatical during his employment at the college that could explain his use of the materials.
A college spokesperson said Creech began employment at CCCCD in August 1996 and taught general psychology, psychology of adjustment, life span psychology, and human sexuality. He also served on the academic progress appeals committee.
Creech's attorney could not be reached for comment before deadline.
