Properly Dispose of Expired Drugs
When: Oct. 1-5, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Properly dispose of those expired prescription and over-the-counter drugs. The City of Frisco’s Environmental Services Department will supply a locked disposal container at the Senior Center. To dispose of medicines, place all pills in a plastic Ziploc bag with no identification on it. No plastic prescription bottles should be dropped into the container. At the end of each day, Environmental Services will pick up all of the medications and properly dispose of them.
Flu Shots For Seniors
When: Oct. 16, 1 to 4 p.m.
Tom Thumb Pharmacy will provide our first round of flu shots this season here at the Center. They will make available 150 vaccines on this date and it will be on a first come, first served basis. You may pick up a number and medical form beginning Oct. 1 at the front desk of the Senior Center to reserve your vaccine. They will also supply pneumonia shots. Tom Thumb accepts Secure Horizons and Medicare Part B. The cost of the flu vaccines without insurance is $28 and the pneumonia shots are $45, payable by check or cash only.
Halloween Bash
When: Oct. 3, 1 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Witches, goblins and goons adorn at the annual Halloween Bash. Enjoy fun group games like guess the goo, pass the broom stick, ghost bingo, and more! Lunch will be provided to all registered participants. Wear your favorite costume and be part of our annual costume contest. Prizes will be awarded for the most creative, most beautiful, most handsome, most scary and most humorous costumes. Register by Oct. 26.
Bingo Prize And Lunch

Everybody loves bingo. Enjoy the fun, prizes and lunch. The prizes will be sponsored by Parkview of Frisco. Lunch is available to all who sign up by Oct. 12.
Birthday Potluck Luncheon
When: 2nd Thursday of the month (Oct. 11), 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Come join the fun and meet some new friends. The luncheon is open to everyone—not just to those who have a birthday this month. Be sure to bring a side or main dish to share (no desserts). The Golden Notes Choir will provide a musical treat for the celebration. Sign up by Oct. 9.
Centennial Checkups
When: 4th Wednesday of the month (Oct. 24), 9—11am
Due to the increasing popularity of Centennial’s monthly checkups, they will provide additional staff and machines to move folks through the tests faster. They will check blood pressure, blood sugar and cholesterol levels. This is a free service. Come by and get tested. Participants must register for this activity. Sign up Oct. 23.

One-on-one assistance is provided by volunteer computer aides by appointment only on Mondays and Wednesdays. Please register with the front desk by the business day before to schedule a one-hour time slot. For those who have ever wanted to learn the computer, but were hesitant about going to a class, this is an ideal solution. Absolutely no experience required.
Eat Smart For Bone Health

Join the Collin County Committee on Aging and the Texas Cooperative Extension in this continuing series of Eat Smart classes. This class will discuss the four C’s of food safety, including cleaning, cross-contamination, cooking, and chilling. Sign up by Oct. 16.

Senior Ed: Heart and The Circulatory System

Follow the diagram of the heart through all its chambers and vessels as Kay Hernandez of the Visiting Nurse Association discusses the heart and how it works. Learn how you can help protect it. Senior Movie Day: Wild Hogs

A group of middle-aged friends decide to rev up their routine suburban lives with a freewheeling motorcycle trip. Taking a long dreamed-of breather from their stressful jobs and family responsibilities, they can't wait to feel the freedom of the open road. When this mismatched foursome, who have grown far more used to the couch than the saddle, set out for this once-in-a-lifetime experience, they encounter a world that holds far more than they ever bargained for. The trip begins to challenge their wits and their luck, especially during a chance run-in with the Del Fuegos, a real-life biker gang who are less than amused with their novice approach. Woodcarving Club

Woodcarving is enjoyed by hobby carvers and professionals throughout the world. Men and women are enjoying the benefits of woodworking. AARP Driver Safety Program

Local seniors may complete this eight-hour (two four-hour sessions) course at the senior center. This refresher course is the nation’s first and largest driver improvement class designed especially for adults age 50 and older. Completion of this class may qualify for an insurance discount, but this class is not for the dismissal of a traffic violation.

Beginning And Intermediate Yoga (Floor)
Reduce stress, increase your strength, flexibility, and general well being through proper breathing, bending, twisting, and stretching exercises while learning relaxation techniques with Bob Geller, Certified Instructor AAAI. The beginning class is for persons with no experience and the intermediate class is for those who feel comfortable with and have gone through the beginning class. Classes are designed for persons who have sufficient mobility and range of motion to be able to do bending, stretching, and twisting movements. Modifications are presented for those who can’t complete the full pose. The instructor will provide the necessary equipment. Feel free to observe a class before joining in on one.

Our very own Andy Valdez, certified specialist for older adults, will introduce you to the Fitness Room. It is so important, especially for Seniors, to learn the proper way to use the equipment in order to avoid injury. You will learn the basics of a workout session from warm-up through cool-down and everything in between.
Sitting Pretty Chair Aerobics
When: Monday, Wednesday and Friday (Weekly), 10 to 10:30 a.m.

Do you want to keep flexible and moving, but can’t take the impact of aerobics? Come and participate in chair aerobics at the Center. This is a low-impact exercise class and ideal for seniors of any age. It’s lots of fun too! Please note the new class time.
Strength, Core And Balance
When: Oct. 8 to Oct. 31, 9 to 9:45 a.m.
Fee: $20 per month or $3 per session

Maximum: 15
Develop your core, strengthen your balance and build your muscles in this 45-minute energizing class. Chairs, hand weights and resistant bands will be used to strengthen and tone your core. The class will consist of a 15-minute warm up, a 20-minute strengthening session and a 15-minute cool down. Come try one or both of the two free sessions on Oct. 1 and Oct. 3. Paid classes begin on Oct. 8.
Tai Chi For Arthritis
When: Oct. 3 to Oct. 25,12:15 to 1:15 p.m.

Classes begin with Qigong warm-up exercises and then students move through the form as a group, with movements broken down into “bite-sized” pieces. Classes are designed for all ability levels; encouraging and guiding new students, while still providing a good challenge for experienced students. No one is left out. Wear comfortable clothes and flat-soled shoes. For newcomers, your first class is free!
