As a part-time employee at Dallas Karaoke DJs at Collin Creek Mall, Frisco resident Mike Reeves has met some interesting characters. Elvis Presley and Johnny Cash are but two of the celebrities he’s encountered n or their impersonators, anyway.

On Saturday, these famous fakers will demonstrate some true kindness by donating their time to perform at a Special Olympics fund raiser in Reeves’ Frisco neighborhood.

“It’s all about putting a smile on a child’s face,” he said. “To see that beautiful smile is rewarding.”

The fund raiser will also feature food from various restaurants, a visit from the Frisco police and fire departments, and a special performance by brother and sister duo Anthony and Sarah Garcia, who have been performing together for 11 years.

“It’s a pleasure for kids to be helping kids,” said Fred Garcia, the group’s father and agent. “I’m really proud of that, because Anthony and Sarah are considered young role models.”

Anythony and Sarah got their big break after entering a contest at the Texas State Fair as a 10- and 7-year-old, respectively, and have performed contemporary mariachi selections for former President Bill Clinton, Gov. Rick Perry, and former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush. They have also sung with Gloria Estefan.

“After these 11 years, I’m very happy as a parent,” Fred Garcia said. “After being with a lot of celebrities near and far, the sombrero still fits. They’re well-grounded.”

The Dallas natives graduated from Booker T. Washington High School, where they focused their studies on music. Now that they’re both high school graduates as of last month, they continue to perform songs in English and Spanish at a variety of functions.

“It’s good for them to recognize and do fund raisers for people in need, and they like that because they’ve had good support with the community and they want to give something back,” Fred Garcia said.

This is Reeves’ second year to host the Special Olympics fund-raiser. His wife, Karie, is a special education teacher who has been involved with Special Olympics for about 15 years.

“This is my way to annually help her out and help the Frisco Special Olympics,” Reeves said.

Last year the event brought out about 85 people and raised $700, and Reeves hopes to nearly double those amounts this year.

Regardless of the amount of money raised, Reeves said the end result is worth the effort.

“There’s not enough money in the world that can give you the rewarding [feeling] of putting a smile on a child’s face,” he said.

The fund-raiser will take place from 4 p.m. to midnight at 6105 Oxford Place. It is free and open to the public.
