Lady Raccoons thump Liberty, 66-41

Published: Wednesday, December 24, 2008 2:37 PM CST
If Frisco and Liberty are to meet again in the Sandra Meadows Classic next week in Duncanville, it will require both teams to make a deep run in a field laden with some of the nation’s top teams. Based on the two meetings between the schools so far this year, the Lady Redhawks may not be as eager for a third crack at their new district counterpart.

The Raccoons inhaled their neighbors to the east Friday, 66-41, to extend their win streak to nine games and drop Liberty to 1-1 in 9-4A. The only losses suffered by the Redhawks in more than a month have come to Frisco, which has won by an average of 28 points.

Frisco (13-2, 2-0) knows all about playing in the elite tournament. The Lady Raccoons lost to Bellaire in the championship game in 2007 after knocking off Mesquite, Plano East, Coppell and Duncanville.

Advancing to the title tilt, which will be played on New Year’s Eve, in the 58th installment of one of the nation’s premier girls basketball events will necessitate virtually flawless play. Four states and 32 teams will be represented.

Frisco, ranked 10th in 4A in the latest Texas Association of Basketball Coaches poll, opens the tournament against No. 13 (5A) Flower Mound. Making its first appearance in the legendary tourney, Liberty will square off with Judson at 3 p.m. Monday. Both schools would have to win three games for the opp
