FISD board meets April 20


The board of trustees of the Frisco Independent School District will meet 7:30 p.m. April 20, rather than April 13 as regularly scheduled.

The board's meetings are regularly scheduled the second Monday night each month at the FISD administration complex, 6928 Maple St., Frisco. Meetings may occasionally be rescheduled, according to the FISD's web site: www.friscoisd.org.

There was no agenda posted as of Sunday night for the April 20 meeting.

FISD graduations at Deja Blue

All four FISD high school graduation ceremonies will be held in Frisco at the newly remodeled Deja Blue Arena, 2601 Avenue of the Stars, at different times June 5 and 6.

Frisco High School will hold graduation 6 p.m. June 5

Centennial High School will hold graduation 10 a.m. June 6.

Liberty High School will hold their first graduation ceremony at 2 p.m. June 6.

Wakeland High School will hold graduation ceremonies 6 p.m. June 6.

Frisco alums honored on campus:

Melanie Balderas, Dean’s List, Berklee College of Music; Shannon Leigh Steffen, President’s and Dean’s list, William Carey University, Hattiesburg, MS; Amanda L. Moen, College of Arts and Sciences, and Jason J. Crebbin, College of Business Administration, named to Dean’s List, University of Nebraska-Lincoln; and Lindsey K. Kerr, awarded degree, B.S. Business Administration, Boston University, January.

Math-Science camp invites Hispanic students

Incoming high school sophomores are invited to apply by May 15 for a summer educational experience sure to enrich their math and science skills - AHETEMS Summer Camp at the University of Texas at Arlington July 22-25.

The summer camp is designed for Hispanic students interested in the subjects of science, technology, engineering and math.

During camp, 30 highly motivated students will dive into conducting lab experiments, competing for prizes in math and science contests, touring local corporate facilities and UT Arlington science and engineering labs, and more during the four-day camp.

FISD swimmers named Academic All-American

Swim Coach Ronnie Rogers tells us several swimmers and divers throughout Frisco ISD have been named 2009 Academic All-Americans by the National Interscholastic Swimming Coaches Association.

Students include Centennial High’s Meredith Bentley and Patrick Steines; Liberty High School’s Ben Blandford and Dolores Johnson; and Frisco High School’s Alanna Montgomery and Jared Nix.

According to Rogers’s sources, only about two percent of the students involved in aquatic sports at the high school level in the nation are recognized as Academic All-Americans.

HILLS ALIVE WITH SOUND OF MUSIC

Legacy Christian Academy students are preparing for opening night as they present the classic, “The Sound of Music.” Students in grades 1-12 were cast in the popular musical showcasing the school’s broad talent base.

The show opens 7 p.m. April 30 in the LCA Auditorium and runs nightly at 7 p.m. through May 2. A matinee performance is available May 3 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $10. For tickets and additional information, please contact the school at 469-633-1330.
