IMAX opens at Stonebriar Friday (SLIDESHOW)
Photos and story by Jan Bellamy, Staff Writer
AMC and IMAX team up to open their new screen Friday at Stonebriar Centre. The feature presentation is “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs” in 3-D.
Special previews highlighted Saturday morning as families from Frisco YMCA were invited for a free showing of an IMAX and Warner Brothers original, “Under the Sea,” in a stunning 3-D on a screen measuring 52 feet wide and 29 feet high.
“I was scared of the great white shark,” said Ryan Price.
Adults as well caught their breath as the three-dimensional images seemed to project 40 feet out into the stadium seating of the newly remodeled theatre. A cod fish 29 feet high is a sight to behold.
Following the “Meatballs” feature this Friday, AMC-IMAX plans to schedule “Where the Wild Things Are.” The latter will not be shown in 3-D, although many features in the new theatre will be shown in three-dimensional effects.
