Children's author visits Frisco Library (PHOTO)
By Jan Jackson, Special Contributor
It's not easy being a moose. Just ask local author Bettina Restrepo. She wrote the book on it.
As part of National Friend's Week at Frisco Public Library, Restrepo recently shared her debut picture book, “Moose and Magpie,” with children's book lovers at the City of Frisco's Council Chambers.
Marlene O'Day, president, Friends of Frisco Public Library, said Restrepo was well received by her audience of young readers and parents.
As part of library week, visitors also had the opportunity to have their pictures taken with a favorite book which was then made into a poster with a variety of backdrops. "Read" posters, produced by the American Library Association, usually picture celebrities or famous authors reading favorite titles.
This idea was morphed into a Friend's fundraiser. O'Day said because the project was so well received, the Friends will be offering poster photo shoots in the lobby of city hall on a quarterly basis.
O'Day said Frisco Public Library Friend's Week events were successful in raising awareness and funds for library support. The Friends of the Frisco Public Library is a non-profit organization that recruits volunteers who help support the library through fundraisers and community outreach.
Friends of Frisco Public Library's next event is a reception with bestselling author Sandra Brown at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 12, 5th floor City Room, George A. Purefoy Municipal Center, 1601 Frisco Square Blvd.
