Johnson seeking second council term
By Bill Conrad, bconrad@acnpapers.com
Scott Johnson is proud of the work that has been accomplished during his first term in office and said he is seeking a second term as the Place 6 council member to finish what has been started.
“I want to finish what we started three years ago,” Johnson said. “We have had tremendous success, but our best days are still ahead of us. I bring a common sense, honest approach to city hall. I have supported significant spending cuts at city hall and voted against tax increases. If elected, I will continue to work hard to make certain that our city government stays out of our wallets and lives as much as possible.”
Johnson moved to Frisco in 2006 and was first elected to the council two years later. Johnson is a managing partner at Wheelhouse Ventures and is married with three kids. His business work led to him being appointed by Texas Governor Rick Perry to the board of Texas Economic Development Corporation in 2006, a position he still holds. He is also a member of the Frisco Chamber of Commerce and the Heritage Association of Frisco.
“My record is clear and consistent,” he said. “I work for our citizens and I spend tax dollars knowing they are not mine to spend. As a businessman who has signed the front of paychecks as much as the back of them, I know what it takes to save for a rainy day and meet your budget.”
While Johnson said he believes the worst of the economic situation is past, he said the city needs to continue on a conservative financial path.
“We have done some great things in weathering the economic storm and coming out on top,” he said. “We need to hold the line on spending and create more high-paying jobs in Frisco.”
While the financial situation facing the city is important, Johnson sees other issues in the city’s future that need to be carefully addressed.
“We have to make certain our citizens are safe by solving our Exide issues and I think we are doing that,” he said. “As the fastest-growing city in the country, we have to expend capital to build the community that we want to live in, but we have to be smart about it and only spend money on what matters.”
While Frisco has nearly 120,000 residents, Johnson said it is the small-town feel that he loves about Frisco and strives to keep.
“We are a community and not merely a city,” Johnson said. “Maintaining that difference and building a community in which my three kids can grow up safe, happy and with endless opportunities is what drives me. “
Early voting begins May 2 and Election Day is May 14.
