Filing deadline passes in Frisco for city, school races
By Bill Conrad, bconrad@acnpapers.com
Seven men will vie for three spots on the Frisco City Council this May.
The marquee race is for mayor, where incumbent Maher Maso is seeking his second term in office. Maso will be challenged by Tom Smith, a 9 ½-year resident of the city.
The other two council positions that are up for grabs are places 5 and 6. Both incumbents are seeking re-election, with Bart Crowder running in Place 5 and Scott Johnson seeking a second term in Place 6.
Johnson has one challenger, John Classe, a Frisco resident for the past 10 ½ years.
Two other challengers filed to run but later withdrew. Scot Felker filed to run for Place 5 on Feb. 25 before withdrawing on March 1, and Bobby Roberti filed on Feb. 22 before pulling out March 14.
Four people are seeking spots on the Frisco ISD Board of Trustees.
Anne McCausland and John Lovelady are running for Place 4, the spot currently held by Brenda Polk, who did not seek re-election. McCausland has lived in FISD for 19 years, while Lovelady has lived in the district for 10 years.
The other open place is Place 5, the seat currently occupied by Richard Beaver, who also declined to seek another term. The challengers for Place 5 are Debbie Gillespie, as 15-year resident of FISD, and Dody Brigadier, who has lived in FISD for almost eight years.
Early voting begins May 2 and Election Day is May 14.
