Bridal show, Four Funny Females come to MPAC
By Dan Eakin, deakin@acnpapers.com
Saturday will be one of the busiest days of the year at the McKinney Performing Arts Center (MPAC) in Historic Downtown McKinney.
The second annual Walk Down the Aisle of History Bridal Show is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and a Four Funny Females performance is slated for 8 p.m.
The Center offered a bridal show last year and it was such a success that it is being offered again this year, and will likely be offered annually for years to come.
"Brides that register in advance will be entered into a drawing to win a stay at a resort in Cancun," Rosenthal said. "The Cancun accommodations have been donated by Lone Star Travel, one of the vendors in our show."
By pre-registering, the brides-to-be let the bridal show planners know what types of services they will be seeking. A bride-to-be doesn't necessarily have to be someone who already has an engagement ring on her finger or a set wedding date.
"Last year, most of our brides-to-be did already have a wedding date set," Rosenthal said. "However, we did have guests attend the show who were looking for services for a bride who couldn't attend. For example, we had moms of brides-to-be who live out of state but knew that they would have their wedding here in McKinney, and the moms were able to learn more about the different wedding options here in McKinney."
She added, "Also, we had guests who love to dream about their big day, even though they may not have a ring or a date set. It's a fun show that appeals to people who love parties and event planning."
Brides may still register at www.walkdowntheaisleofhistory.com.
"The bridal show is going to be fantastic," Rosenthal said. "It's going to offer brides an incredible assortment of options to help them for their big day."
The bridal show has already reached vendor capacity, as 56 vendors have signed up for this year's event. Since the show is at MPAC and not at a larger convention center, the number of vendors is limited.
There is a $5 admission charge to attend the bridal show.
Four Funny Females will be performing in its fifth season at MPAC on Saturday night.
While some of the troupe's comedy will be the same as in previous shows, there will be some new material, said Laura Bartlett, a McKinney resident who produces the show.
"Life evolves, and so does our comedy," she said.
She said that the November show was a sell-out for the 420 seats in the theater and that anyone who has not yet purchased tickets ($20) may do so at www.mckinneyperformingartscenter.org.
In addition to Bartlett, the other females in the standup performance are Jodi Hadsell, Sherry Belle and Linda Stogner.
Bartlett said that a New York Times reporter recently interviewed her and that a story about the show is supposed to appear in the New York Times on Friday.
