The Texas Instruments (TI) Jazz Band will be in concert at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the McKinney Performing Arts Center (MPAC) in downtown McKinney.

The TI Jazz Band will feature vocalist Sarah Kervin, a native of Atlanta, Ga., who is now studying for a master's degree at the University of North Texas (UNT) in Denton.

Tickets for the concert are $15 for adults and $10 for students and are available at the MPAC box office. For tickets, call 214-544-4630.

The TI Jazz band, which has been invited to play at the Cancun Jazz Festival in May, is a full 18-piece big band consisting of saxophone, trombone, trumpet and rhythm sections. The group formed in the summer of 1986.

Most of the band members have degrees in engineering or computer science. The band is a non-profit organization, and proceeds from ticket sales go toward the band's operating expenses.

The TI Jazz Band has performed at Artfest, Montage, the Myerson Symphony Center, the Starplex (now Smirnoff) Amphitheater and the Texas Jazz Festival. In July 2000, the band performed at the prestigious Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland.

In 1995, the band won top honors at a judged festival at Loyola University in New Orleans.

Kervin is a vocalist, saxophonist, pianist, educator and composer/arranger. She expects to obtain a master of music degree in vocal jazz studies from UNT this spring.

Kervin has received recognition as a soloist, guest artist composer and band leader at various places around the world. She has won the Jazz Education Network's composition showcase, was a finalist with the West Point Jazz Knights, a guest artist with the Dick Goodwin Jazz Orchestra, a featured artist at the Dizzy Gillespie South Carolina Jazz Festival and a choral ambassador to China for the 2008 Olympics.

She plans to move to New York this summer to further pursue her music career. Her debut album, "Passing Through," is scheduled to be released later this year.
