Girl Scouts celebrate 100th anniversary; rock Vista Ridge Mall with 'surprise' flash mob dance Saturday, April 21
By Saundra David
On Saturday, April 21 at 1 p.m., 100-plus Girl Scouts will burst into song and dance, igniting Vista Ridge Mall with the news that the Girls Scouts of USA is celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2012. The Scouts, ranging in age from five to 18 – Daisy through Ambassador – will perform a flash mob dance to Ignite, the official theme song for Girls Scouts Rock the Mall, 2012.
The flash mob dance at Vista Ridge Mall is part of the nationwide celebration of the Girls Scouts of USA’s 100th Anniversary Celebration. The national celebration, called Rock the Mall, is scheduled for Saturday, June 9 in Washington, D.C. More than 200,000 Girl Scouts, friends, family and alumni are expected to participate in the June event, performing the dance in D.C. on the National Mall.
“We wanted to celebrate locally also, so Scouts from Lewisville and Highland Village are learning the dance and the song and we’ll gather at Vista Ridge Mall and ‘rock’ the mall,” said Donna Hoye, Girl Scout troop leader and recruitment and events coordinator. “The flash dance represents a spark that we hope will empower our Scouts to continue learning and growing and participating in the world. And, a spark that we hope will entice more girls to join the Scouting movement and ignite their own dreams.”
