15-4A BASEBALL: West Mesquite unable to pull the upset of Red Oak
Published: Friday, April 27, 2012 9:50 PM CDT
With its playoff hopes having come to an end two weeks ago, West Mesquite has taken on the role of spoiler as the regular season winds down.
The Wranglers had a chance to deal Red Oak a blow to its playoff hopes, but came up short on Saturday in a 12-0 loss.
West Mesquite falls to 3-12 in 15-4A play with the season finale slated for Friday against Forney.
Poteet had a bye on Friday but it is in the unusual position of watching others jockey for playoff position, having had their postseason dreams dashed last week.
The Pirates, who are 7-8 in district play, will wrap up the regular season on Friday against Waxahachie at Copeland Field.
Corsicana, who has a bye on the final day of the regular season, fell to Forney on Friday, but still will be the top seed in the playoffs after capturing the district championship.
The Jackrabbits will settle for second place and will be the second seed in the playoffs regardless of the outcome of Friday's game against West Mesquite.
Waxahachie currently had a one-game lead over Red Oak and Ennis for third place.
