For the past few years, speed has defined the East defense.
Look no further than state-level sprinter Bassett, who blanketed opposing receivers all season long. The senior's final year donning the black and gold netted just 29 tackles -- a sign not many passes were completed when thrown his way -- to go along with 10 pass breakups.
Bassett's speed was also flexed in the return game, where he scored a pair of touchdowns.
