Highs and lows: RoughRiders search for consistency

The good news for the RoughRiders is that Tuesday’s 5-2 win over San Antonio marked their third consecutive victory.
The bad news is that the three wins were followed by four straight losses.
Despite the inconsitency that has plagued Frisco for much of August, the RoughRiders currently sit at second place in the Texas League South Division standings.
The win allowed Frisco to make up a game on first-place San Antonio and close the gap to seven games back in the standings.
Snyder allowed two runs in the start, just one earned run, on six hits to give the pitcher four straight quality starts. The win also put Synder in a tie with teammate Justin Miller for the team lead in wins (9).
San Antonio’s Andy Parinno gave the Missions an early lead in the third inning with a solo shot that would be the team’s only lead in the game.
Frisco’s Mitch Hilligoss tied the game at one run apiece with a leadoff homer in the fourth inning to give him three long balls on the season.
A double by Jonathan Greene then allowed Mike Bianucci to blast his 29th homer of the season to put Frisco on top, 3-1.
After an unearned run in the fifth pulled the Missions to within a run, Tommy Mendonca drove a two-run shot onto the berm in right-center to extend the ‘Riders’ lead to 5-2.
Relief pitcher Tyler Tufts tossed the final inning and a third for his seventh save of the season.
On the hill for the Missions was starter Pedro Hernandez. The hurler allowed five runs over six innings on seven hits in a losing effort.
The two teams continued play during the four-game series Wednesday night (results not available as of press time). Righty Carlos Pimentel (5-9, 5.24) was scheduled to take the mound against lefty Juan Oramas (8-4, 3.08).
Pimentel looked to continue a string of solid outings from Frisco starters.
In Monday’s game with Tulsa, it was Frisco starter Adalberto Flores who got the job done.
Flores powered the RoughRiders to a 4-2 win behind a season-best effort that saw the hurler sit down the first 14 men he faced before giving up an infield single with two down in the eighth.
The righty needed just 59 pitched to post a season-high four and two-thirds innings after coming into the game during the fourth inning.
Flores (5-3) matched a season-high with six strikeouts and lowered his earned run average to 2.90 on the season.
On the offensive side for Frisco the long ball was used to take the lead and add to it.
Jonathan Greene’s two-run homer in the third inning gave the ‘Riders a 3-2 advantage and gave Greene 18 home runs on the season.
Then in the seventh inning, Mike Bianucci hit his 28th homer run of the year, a solo blast to right-center that pushed his team’s lead to 4-2.
The win put the RoughRiders’ season record against the Drillers at 10-2, which means the team is 3-0-1 in season series during the 2011 season.
Against the North Division, Frisco finished the regular season 30-18.
