40 Fourth: Lady Panthers set program mark at state track meet

After taking the district and regional ranks by storm, the Plano East girls track and field team raised the bar a bit further Saturday at the UIL Class 5A State Championships.

But in a whirlwind of emotions for all involved at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin, the Lady Panthers were no different in finishing a program-best fourth place in the team standings with 40 points.

East's quest for the first UIL team title in school history fell 10 points short of DeSoto (50), with Garland capturing second (46) and Mansfield Timberview claiming third (41).

WEB EXCLUSIVE: State 7-on-7 pools released

The State 7-on-7 Tournament commences Friday and six area teams are in the mix.

Among the football teams traveling to College Station for the 64-squad Division I event are Carrollton Creekview (Pool L), Coppell (Pool C), Hebron (Pool K), Mesquite (Pool) A, Plano Senior (Pool E) and Plano West (Pool D).

The Wildcats are matched alongside Abilene, Klein Oak and La Marque in their pool while the Wolves will face off against Tyler John Tyler, Katy and Arlington Lamar in pool play.

Pool play gets underway at 1 p.m. Friday from Penberthy Intramural Fields with the elimination rounds set for Saturday.
