Tripucka tops in Texas
After a trip to the Sailer/NIKE National Competition in Las Vegas last week, Allen junior Shane Tripucka has ascended to the No. 1 Class of 2013 punter in the state according to Chris Sailer Kicking.
Tripucka, who has moved from a 4-star to 4.5-star prospect, is ranked No. 18 nationally.
"Shane is a very talented punter," Sailer said. "He is big, tall, strong, athletic and has the perfect frame for a college punter. He has shown outstanding improvement from camp to camp and I expect big things from Shane this summer."
Next up for Tripucka is a whirlwind Division I tour.
The 6-foot-3, 210-pound punter will participate in college kick days at Baylor, Boston College, LSU, Texas A&M and Texas Tech, among others.
Lovejoy to hold Spring Game
In the latest step for its trek to Class 4A, the Lovejoy football team will conclude its spring football season Friday.
In doing so, the Leopards will take the field at 7 p.m. to conclude the spring schedule with the program's first-ever Spring Game.
Players will be divided into two teams -- Black and White -- and square off for four quarters. In the past, the Leopards opted to forgo spring football workouts in order to start fall practices earlier.
Friday will give the Lovejoy faithful a chance to experience the state's springtime tradition for the first time and get a look at the 2012 Leopards, led by first-year head coach Matt Jones.
Admission is free.
Allen concluded its spring schedule Wednesday evening with its annual Spring Game (results not available at press time).
Leopards in Lone Star Cup mix
Lovejoy is still very much in the running for a third consecutive UIL Lone Star Cup.
With one publication cycle left in the annual statewide competition, the Leopards rank third among Class 3A schools with 56 points. They trail Argyle (68) and Abilene Wylie (64).
Each year, the UIL rewards one school from each classification the Lone Star Cup, which comes with a trophy and $1,000 scholarship. The last of the competition's six publication cycles will be held June 15, tabulating performance in academics, one-act play, baseball and softball.
Standings will be finalized July 1.

The Eagles' 6-foot-1, 280-pound linchpin at right guard will participate in the state's longest-running high school football all-star game, which pits a cast of high school standouts from Texas against a similarly-selected team from Oklahoma.
As part of Team Texas, Trotter takes to the field at Memorial Stadium in Wichita Falls on June 9.
