Transporation agencies to offer free transit services
By Lena Price
North Texas drivers can exchange a gas reciept for free acess to regional transit services next week.
Dallas, Denton and Fort Worth transportation agencies partnered together to form a local version of the national "Dump the Pump" campaign. Communters can bring a gas reciept of any amount to a designated location next week and swap it for a DART, The T or DCTA fixed route service pass.
The passes will be good from June 18-23, and there is no limit on how often commuters can use them during that week.
DCTA has participated in "Dump the Pump" before, but this campaign will be more extensive because it includes the whole region.
"We're excited to try this over a longer period," Brevard said. "Because we've partnered with neighboring organizations, we're expecting a reasonable turnout."
DCTA will distribute up to 500 service passes, and the Dallas and Fort Worth agencies will have additional passes to hand out.
Lewisville and Flower Mound communters can swap their gas reciepts from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. all week at the Highland Village City Hall Utility Department; from 7 to 9 a.m. Monday at the Hebron 121 Station leasing center's Monday Morning Muffins, 880 Union Station Parkway and from 3 to 5 p.m. Friday at Vista Ridge Mall's center court, 2401 S. Stemmons Freeway.
A full list of locations and times is available on DCTA's website, www.dcta.net.
