A star-spangled celebration is in store for you on July 4th here in The Colony. The city of The Colony will celebrate America's Independence Day once again with Liberty By the Lake. The 2012 Liberty By the Lake festival will be held along the beautiful shoreline of Lake Lewisville at Stewart Creek Park.

Citizens can help kick off the event by cheering on runners for the Liberty 5K, 10K and 1-Mile Fun Run beginning at 7:45am. The 5K course will start in Stewart Creek Park and make its way through the Stewart Peninsula Subdivision before returning to the park. The 10K course will wind along the beautiful shoreline trail showcasing the beauty of Lake Lewisville.

Then it is on to the Independence Day Parade. The theme for this year’s parade is “The Colony’s 35th Anniversary: Community Spirit, Patriotic Pride”. Participants are encouraged to depict their favorite references to some of The Colony’s events and moments in its history over the past 35 years in order to bring home the bragging rights for the Most Creative Float, Best Non-Float Entry or Outstanding Marching Group.

As the summer sun begins to set, activities at Stewart Creek Park heat up. Beginning at 4:00pm the Family Fun Zone and the Freedom Business Expo opens welcoming guests. Come by early to see one of the fantastic Elvis Impersonators competing in the regional competition for a chance to participate at next year’s 2013 Elvis National Competition. Following the contest, the featured entertainment for the evening will be the Live 80 Band; the group’s performance begins at 7:00pm and will continue until time for the amazing fireworks display set to start around 9:30pm.

A host of activities are slated for the evening of the fourth at Stewart Creek Park including the “Salsa Shootout” homemade salsa contest and new this year “Watermelon Eating Contest”. Back again for a second year the amazing stunts by the Overground Skateboarding and BMX group. There will be four separate shows full of high flying action and incredible stunts, 4:30 PM, 5:30 PM, 6:45 PM, & 7:45 PM.
