Tourney'ing the tables: Panthers rebound, ultimately fall in SQT semifinals

WYLIE -- The Lovejoy football team began last week as an alternate for Friday's Wylie 7-on-7 State Qualifying Tournament.

Uncertain to even be part of the event, the Leopards would justify their eventual entry by coming within a hairline of being in the finals. Tournament host Wylie had other plans, dashing the Leopards' latest bid for a state tournament berth with a 47-45 overtime win in the semifinals.

"I'm really proud of our kids," said Matt Green, Lovejoy head coach. "Being a late addition, they weren't prepared for this, but they came together and said that they wanted to be here."

Brad North commits to Northwestern

Allen continually has it football players continue their careers at the next level, as evidenced by last season when 21 Eagles signed on with colleges.


The Class of 2013 got started Friday when 6-foot-2, 280-pound offensive lineman Brad North verbally committed to Northwestern.

The rising senior is one of two returning offensive starters for the Eagles this season.

North sifted through a number of colleges before choosing Northwestern as he also had offers from Arkansas State, Boise State, Colorado State, Houston, Nevada, San Diego State, Wake Forest and Washington State. Many of those offers came in after the March 24-25 Nike Training Combine at Cowboys Stadium in which North was named MVP.
