Keeping an eye out for "Bo"

Published: Wednesday, June 20, 2012 12:30 PM CDT
Where's Bo?

The Little Elm Economic Development Corporation has a challenge to residents in Little Elm--find "Bo" and enter a chance to win a gift card to a local business.

In just the early beginnings of the two-year construction project on Eldorado Parkway, the center roadway for the town, Little Elm EDC wants to give residents an incentive to visit the businesses affected by the construction along the road. Their solution? "Hide" a stuffed Bob the Builder toy nicknamed "Bo the Builder," short for "Lobo," at various businesses to give residents a chance to enter a contest if Bo is located.

"We value our local businesses and want them to thrive during this period of construction, so we are sending Bo to encourage visitors to their business," said a press release from the EDC.

Bo will be moved every two weeks to a new Little Elm business on Eldorado. To ensure no confusion with other Bob the Builder toys, Bo has "Little Elm" embroidered on his hat. Typically, Bo is out in the open and easy to spot.

"We wanted to make it so people can see him. Usually he's right behind a counter and with a frame with information," Stephanie Mullican, EDC intern, said.

Mullican said the information frame also includes a QR code that directly sends smartphone users to the EDC's online website for Bo. So far, Bo has been spotted at Town Hall and Little Elm Pharmacy. He is now in his third "hiding spot."

The EDC has already chosen a winner for the contest so far--Sherrie Bristow was chosen last week in the drawing. Bristow was driving to her daughter's school on Lobo Lane when she spotted Bo. Curious, she went online at the town's website where she found out about the contest. She "Liked" the Bo the Builder page on Facebook and sent in her entry form.

"I haven't even heard about it," Bristow said. "I think it's a great idea. It lets people know what they're doing [on Eldorado] and why they're doing it."

She said not only did Bo give her a reason to go on the town's website to find out more, but she also looked up the Eldorado Parkway construction plans.

"Before, I don't think I would've done that," Bristow said.

Residents who spot Bo can submit and entry form online at www.littleelmedc.org/where-is-bo. Those who "Like" the Facebook page can have their name entered twice. Every Monday, a winner will be chosen and have their name featured on the Facebook page.

The contest will continue throughout the entire Eldorado Parkway project.
