FMHS Robotics and Technology students headed to antional competition in Nashville

The FMHS Robotics team is headed to Nashville to compete in the National TSA competition that is being held this month. Teams from all over the country will compete in several categories including robotics and engineering design.
The team took 1st place at the state TSA (Texas Technology Students Association) contest that was held in Waco on April 1-3, 2012. FMHS sent 3 teams to the competition, two of which finished in the 1st placed alliance. Each team had a different robot that competed. Long hours and lots of hard work went in to designing and programming each robot. A total of 35 teams from all over Texas competed for the championship and the chance to attend the national competition.
The winning Robotics team members are Nicolas Dhanam, Joey Aja, Cubie Mesecher, Nikita Eliseev, Andrew Smith, Tyler Davis, Corey Davis, Mitchell Johnson, Sam Windham, Stevie Walta, Reid Levenick, and Peter Glockenmeier.
FMHS also took 1st place in Engineering Design and Bio Tech.
Engineering Design team members are Nicolas Dhanam, Joey Aja, Cubie Mesecher, Nikita Eliseev, Andrew Smith, and Jack Williamson.
Bio Tech winners are Iris Fung, Ankit Sharma, Austin McKiel, Jarrin Cazzola, and Max Haan.
All of the winning teams are coached and mentored by Mr. Ralph Szydlik, who is the technology teacher at FMHS and who has taught in LISD for 13 years. Mr. Szydlik was recently recognized by the ITEEA and was presented with the 2012 Technology & Engineering Teacher Excellence Award, which is the most prestigious award given in recognition of Technology and Engineering education. The award was given to Mr. Szydlik on March 16, 2012 in Long Beach, CA.
