Allen man sentenced to 14 years after intoxication manslaughter charge

An Allen man was sentenced to 14 years in prison by a Collin County jury on Wednesday after pleading guilty to intoxication manslaughter with a deadly weapon, Collin County District Attorney Greg Willis announced last week.
Jeffery Charles Criss, 26, was convicted for the July 2011 death of his 11-month-old daughter, who died in the backseat of Criss' vehicle after prosecutors say he wrecked it while intoxicated. His daughter, Lucy, died in the backseat of the vehicle, which had flipped and caught on fire.
Frisco Fire Department officials responded to the wreck, which occurred at the intersection of Coit and Rockhill roads in McKinney, and treated Criss for lower leg injuries and burns. He was transported by CareFlite to Parkland Hospital.
The case was investigated by the Department of Public Safety, and a blood sample taken from Criss revealed a blood alcohol content of 0.15, nearly double the legal limit.
The trial began June 18 and concluded after a two-and-a-half-hour deliberation. Criss faced a maximum of 20 years behind bars.
The case was prosecuted by assistant district attorneys Blake Glover and Cynthia Walker and was assisted by DA Investigator Kenneth Moore. State District Court Judge John Roach, Jr. presided over the case.
