Courting Success: Lovejoy's Brooke Court leaving to take over McKinney Boyd baseball program

After guiding the Lovejoy baseball team to a 21-10 record in his first year as a head coach, Brooke Court is moving to McKinney Boyd to take over for longtime manager Brandon Milam, who left the program shortly after the end of the 2012 season to take an assistant principal job at Tatum High School.
"It's a great opportunity for me and my family," said Court, who will be just the second head baseball coach in school history.
Before taking over at Lovejoy, Court served as an assistant coach at McKinney North for six years. He spent his first year there coaching under Milam, who headed the North baseball program before taking over at Boyd when it opened in 2006. During Court's tenure with the Bulldogs, they reached the state semifinals and state quarterfinals.
"We only had one returning position starter, so there were a lot of new faces," he said, "but the kids played hard and bought into what I was preaching to them."
Court parlayed that success into securing his new position at Boyd, where a similar level of success has become the expectation. The Broncos have made the playoffs each of the past three years and advanced to the regional quarterfinals in 2011.
Boyd hosted a "meet the coach" night last week during which Court introduced himself to his future players and their parents, but he'll have to wait for the new school year to begin before implementing his vision for the program. The nature of the baseball season will make the transition easier, though. Since games won't be played until the spring, Court will have a class period every school day during the fall semester to start teaching players his way of doing things.
"They'll know the expectations I'm going to have for them," Court said. "[The fall] will kind of lay the groundwork for the program and how we want to approach the game and how we want to play."
Boyd assistant coach Tommy Sparks will remain with the program, but Court is currently looking for a replacement for former assistant coach Tyler Porter, who left to take a head coaching position in the Houston area.
Having a new head coach is only one of several transitions the Broncos will be making next season. They will also be moving into a more difficult district that will feature Plano Senior, Plano East, Plano West, Allen and McKinney.
Court said he expects it to be a tough, well-coached district with many talented players. He will be one of two new head coaches among the group, as West promoted assistant coach Kevin Clark to replace head coach Don English, who left after one year to take over the baseball program at Trinity Christian Academy.
