Frisco Freedom Fest Children’s Expo to be filled with family fun

Published: Tuesday, July 3, 2012 2:09 PM CDT
Calling all youngsters – this year’s Children’s Expo will be kid-central at the Fourth of July event. The fun-filled area expanded over the years as the festival attracts a larger crowd. This go-round, families can expect an array of activities to entertain their pride and joy.

Centennial Medical Center is sponsoring the Children’s Expo and has done so since 2005.

“It is our way of showing the residents of Frisco and the surrounding communities how much we care about not only our community but also our nation and our freedom,” said Kimberly Buser, marketing and volunteers manager at Centennial Medical Center. “We love to see happy, smiling children, and sponsoring the children’s expo is one more way to brighten a child's day,” Buser said.

Gamin’ Ride is the newest addition geared toward children. With a mobile video game theater, kids can play the latest gaming systems such as Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Nintendo Wii. The gaming lounge has “4D” chairs with vibration effects in which one can play numerous games. It’s also powered with Smell-a-Vision: smell the games you play! With 16 spots inside the lounge and eight more outside under the awning, 24 players can share the experience at the same time. The theater is handicap-accessible, so no one is left behind.

The Science Safari is also a rookie at this year’s event. The on-site science exhibit company will be bringing their “Pavilion of Butterflies,” a walk-through butterfly exhibit housing the free flying creatures. With more than 10 species of butterflies and informational displays, visitors will learn about the insects’ behaviors, eating habits and life cycles.

Along with the game theater and insect exhibit, kids will find everything from an obstacle course to a dunk tank. A midway will offer age-appropriate games next to a giant slide and two euro bungees. The east side of the plaza will host a 25-foot rock wall, bounce house, Buccaneer Combo inflatable and Fun Express inflatable. And it wouldn’t be a festival without face painting – next to the classic kid favorite will be the Parks and Recreation Fun Zone and a liberty bell show.

If all these don’t tucker out the little ones… there’s still more. Last but not least, a puppet show and mini-train ride will be near the Museum of the American Railroad vendor.
