Fourth of July festivities

In the week leading up to the 4th of July, each city in Texas has their own take on the Independence Day festivities. With plenty of food booths, face painting, and cover bands to choose from, it can be difficult to narrow down 4th of July plans. Here’s a quick run-down on each one to help through planning.

Carrollton:
An old-fashioned traditional Fourth of July celebration, the Carrollton Fourth of July Celebration is simple and a wholesome family event. It will start at 1:00 p.m. on July 2, and will have a performance by the Dallas New Horizons Band. The celebration will have a various food booths with lemonade, hot dogs, popcorn and snacks. It will be located at the Carrollton Senior Center

Celina:
With water slides and local Texas tunes, the City of Celina’s Independence Day Splash & Blast will be a memorable Fourth of July event. It takes place on Saturday, June 30, beginning at 10:30 a.m. at Old Celina Park. All day passes cost $5, and will include entrance as well as water slide rides. Live music will be played by Jon Christopher Davis and Lone Star Attitude, and the Olden Young Band. It is a family event and will feature numerous food stands, with fireworks closing the evening.

Coppell:
Coppell will paint the town red, white, and blue with the Spirit of Coppell Patriotic Parade. It will start bright and early at 9 a.m. until 10, and leads off at the corner of Samuel and Parkway Boulevard, and will go through the town plaza. Attendees are suggested to don their red, white, and blue apparel in celebration of Independence Day.

Flower Mound:
A full day packed with activities, the Flower Mound Independence Fest 2012 will kick off July with a bang. The Children’s Parade is from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. The gates to the festival later open at 5 p.m. with Smash Mouth performing at 8:15 p.m. It will feature an art exhibition, car shows, and bounce houses and face painting for the kids. The fireworks finale starts at 9:45 p.m. Admission and parking are free of charge.

Frisco:
For soccer families and patriots alike, the Frisco Freedom Fest will be a fulfilling event. It starts on Wednesday, July 4th at the FC Dallas Stadium. For the kids, there will be a Children’s Expo, with bounce houses, rock climbing wall, bungee trampolines. A larger party will be held at Simpson Plaza, following the soccer game, and will feature live music and entertainment, and close with a Fireworks Extravaganza at 10:00 p.m.

Lewisville:
The Lewisville skies will be lit up again this year, with the Red White & Lewisville firework show on July 4 at 9:30 p.m. It is free of charge, and will be held in the Vista Ridge Mall area.

Little Elm:
The July Jubilee Independence Celebration will have plenty to do for the whole family on July 4, from 5:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. in Little Elm Park. The family event will have food and merchandise vendors, live music, and will wrap up with a professional fireworks display over the lake.

McKinney:
The McKinney Red, White & Boom celebration will be an entire day’s worth of Independence Day festivities. It starts with a parade at 10 a.m., a car show at 1 p.m. and various kids activities at 7 p.m. Live music and the firework show start at 9:45 p.m.

Plano:
The July 4th Celebration in Plano is a day packed with events. It starts with a parade at 9 a.m. down Independence Parkway from 15th to Parkhaven Drive. At 3 p.m., the Plano Symphony Orchestra for their Patriotic Pops show. At 9:30 p.m., the evening will end with “All-American Fourth Fireworks”. Bring your own chairs and blankets, and the show is free. Music will be played in synchronization with the fireworks on 97.5 FM.

Rowlett:
With face painting and live music, the Fireworks on Main 2012 event will be the center of attention in Rowlett on July 4. It will be held on Wednesday July 4, starting at 5:00 p.m. It will have children’s entertainment throughout the event, and fireworks at 9:20 p.m.

Southlake:
With plenty of booths and entertainment, the Stars & Stripes Patriotic Ceremony is sure to be a great day out for any family. It will be held on Tuesday July 3, will have activity booths such as balloon artists and candy art open at 6 p.m., and the Patriotic Ceremony will start at 8 p.m. The fireworks will start at 9:30 p.m.

The Colony:
The Liberty by the Lake Festival will have an assortment of free events in The Colony. It will begin at 10:00 a.m. with a parade, and the park will open at 11:00 a.m. with live music, BMX and Skateboarding Stunt shows, and various family friendly entertainment. The fireworks finale will be at 9:30 p.m.

Weston
The 27th annual Weston Furth of July parade will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, July 4 in Weston. Bake sale items and cold drinks available. Parade categories include cars/trucks, motorcycles, floats, walkers/bicycles/wagons/kids’ vehicles, horses/buggies and carts, tractors/4-wheelers, go-karts/lawnmowers. No fees or registration required. Lineup is from 8:30 to 9 a.m. Judging will be from 9 to 9:45 a.m.. For information email pharrington@ci.weston.tx.us.
