Parker reminds residents of Saturday morning meetings

Today Representative Tan Parker (R-Flower Mound) took to reminding his constituents that even though public school is starting, that his office will continue to host open office hours on the first Saturday of every month from 8 a.m. until all participants have had the opportunity to speak with their state representative.
Generally referred to as First Saturday Coffees, the open office hours provide interested individuals with the opportunity to enjoy a cup of coffee and a pastry while visiting with Parker about issues important to them.
In the five years of hosting his First Saturday Coffees, Parker has met with numerous individuals, some wanting simply to introduce themselves to their area lawmaker, others needing his assistance in working with state agencies and even several wanting to discuss legislative initiatives for the Texas House to undertake.
Parker further explained that he is also available to meet with constituents throughout the entire month through scheduled appointments. In keeping with his standard, Parker will continue to host his First Saturday Coffees prior to the January start of the upcoming legislative session, then temporarily suspend them while his presence is required at the State Capitol, and then resume his open office hours in the summer of 2013. Initially elected on Nov. 7, 2006, Parker represents both rural and urban parts of Denton County which encompasses Flower Mound, Highland Village, Pilot Point, Argyle, Aubrey, Dish, Krugerville, Sanger, Cross Roads, Krum, Ponder, Justin, Lantana, Northlake, Copper Canyon, Double Oak, Bartonville, Trophy Club, Roanoke and portions of Lewisville, Fort Worth and Southlake.
Serving in his third term in the Texas Legislature, Parker is focusing his efforts on economic development, job creation, strengthening border security and immigration policy, promoting fiscally responsible government spending, providing a strong public education system and protecting family values. Parker is the current Vice Chairman of the Rules and Resolutions Committee. He also serves on the Corrections and Urban Affairs Committees.

Moreover, Trish Robinson, his District Director, is so pleasant and charming, she made you feel like one of the family. About a year after that first Coffee, I moved my office from Highland Village to Flower Mound and found myself just down the hall from Mr. Parker's second floor office. Although he spends a lot of time in Austin during legislative sessions, whenever he was in his Parker Square office I could expect him to stop by and say hello from time to time. During these Coffees, Mr. Parker brings the business of the state directly to the people, giving us a chance to express our views on issues that affect us in many ways. If you haven't taken advantage of one of his monthly Saturday meetings, you've not only missed out on a great lesson in the workings of state politics, but you've missed some great coffee, stimulating conversations and tasty treats.
