RoughRiders look for series win
After dropping three of four games against Corpus Christi, the RoughRiders will look for a series victory against Midland to get back on the winning track.
Frisco, the Double-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers, dropped the series opener (10-4) on Tuesday before rebounding with a win Wednesday night.
Righty Barret Loux began the game on the hill and tossed three innings of one-hit baseball that saw Midland score just one run.
Relievers Miguel De Los Santos, Carlos Pimentel and Ryan Rodebaugh followed Loux on the mound and kept the Rockhounds scoreless for the remainder of the game.
Pimentel would ultimately get the win to improve to 8-2 on the season.
At the plate, it was top prospects Mike Olt and Jurickson Profar that drove in the winning runs.
Profar put Frisco ahead, 2-1, with a seventh-inning single to score Engel Beltre. Olt followed Profar with an RBI single of his own to add a key insurance run.
With Frisco and Midland splitting the first two games of a three-game set, the two teams were set for a rubber match Thursday night. However, results were not available as of press time.
The RoughRiders return home today to play four games against San Antonio.

The Twins won the 9U Platinum Title by beating defending champs Broncos de Zapata, 11-4
The Twins’ 8-0 run included wins against the Lake City Bandits, Rattlers and Fast Center 45s during pool play. After advancing to the Platinum Bracket, they remained perfect with wins over Coppell Red, Frozen Ropes Elite, the top-seeded Dallas Tigers-South and the Prosper Crush.
In the championship game, the Twins jumped out to an early lead and paired powerful offense with solid defense to seal the win.
State VB moving to Garland
The UIL Volleyball State Championships are moving to the Curtis Culwell Center in Garland.
The tournament had been at Strahan Coliseum in San Marcos since 2000.
“The Culwell Center is a first-class venue and we believe it will serve as a tremendous host,” said Dr. Mark Cousins, UIL athletic director. “We look forward to working closely with Garland ISD in creating a great experience for the schools, fans and students involved.”
The state tourney is set for Nov. 15-17.
“UIL championship events make memories that last a lifetime,” said Dr. Curtis Culwell, Garland ISD Superintendent. “Garland ISD is privileged to host this premiere championship event.”
Lovejoy has won four straight state volleyball titles.
