Lukin for a comeback: Jarret returns to Americans for fourth season

The Allen Americans are fond of collecting captains these days.
Not long after adding former Dallas Stars captain Mike Modano as a minority owner and re-signing captain Jason Deitsch, Allen locked up its second player for the 2012-13 season by re-signing Jarret Lukin. Lukin, a former Americans captain, is returning to the team for a fourth season.
“I’m super excited to be coming back to Allen,” Lukin said. “I love the steps the organization has made to win a championship. I love Allen and it’s a privilege to play here. I can’t wait to get back, see everyone and get this thing rolling.”
In the summer of 2009, Lukin was one of the first players the Americans signed. Named captain for Allen’s inaugural 2009-10 season, Lukin and Company advanced to the Ray Miron President’s Cup Finals. Lukin was again a captain in 2010-11 before having to leave the team for a portion of the season and give up his captaincy due to personal reasons.
Lukin was back to a more full-time schedule in 2010-11, playing in 61 of the team’s 66 games. The center was in the top six of every major offensive category for Allen as he posted 19 goals, 24 assists and 43 points for the Americans.
“[Lukin is] a hardworking, consistent scorer,” said Steve Martinson, Allen head coach.
Consistent is an apt word for Lukin, who has spent the majority of his professional career (158 games) with the Americans. Prior to coming to Allen, Lukin spent three seasons in the East Coast Hockey League, skating with the Florida Everblades from 2006-2008 and the Dayton Bombers in 2008-2009. Lukin’s season with the Bombers may have been his best as a pro as he netted a career-high 49 goals.
Lukin will look to replicate that success beginning in October as the Americans search for their first CHL Championship.
Martinson expected to do well
Though he does not have the tenure with the franchise that Lukin does, big things are expected from first-year head coach Martinson.
So say CHL fans.
The league put up a poll on its website asking which new coach will have the best 2012-13 season and Martinson (52 percent) thoroughly outpaced Derek Armstrong of the Denver Cutthroats (31 percent) and Brian Gratz of the Bloomington Blaze (17 percent).
Team holds youth hockey camp
The Americans will hold their annual youth hockey camp July 11-13 at the AEC’s community ice rink.
The team’s clinic is set up to be fun and challenging, providing children ages 6-12 the opportunity to develop and build their hockey skills. Such drills will be run by current Allen players with appearances by NHL standouts Modano, Craig Ludwig and Ed Belfour, each of whom won a Stanley Cup with the Dallas Stars. The camp costs $295 per person and will include 4.5 hours of ice sessions as well as sports-related recreational activities (Top Golf, etc.), a free camp jersey, lunches and a behind-the-scenes tour of the Americans’ locker room.
Campers must have a complete set of hockey equipment to participate.
