The Rowlett Xtreme Speed has enjoyed plenty of success over the years at the Texas Amateur Athletic Federation Games of Texas.
And while the Xtreme Speed did not have the number of qualifiers they have in the past, they still were able to make a splash at this year's state track and field meet last Thursday through Sunday at Cabaniss Multi-Purpose Complex in Corpus Christi.
Rowlett won eight medals in all, highlighted by one individual gold medal and another gold in the relay events.
Aaron Williams missed out on a gold medal, but had a strong all-around meet in the boys 18-and-under group, earning bronze medals in the high jump by clearing 6-0, and in the triple jump with a mark of 46-03. He nearly added a third medal but came up fourth in the long jump.
Zachary Gilson took second place in the high jump in the boys 12-and-under division. In the boys 16-and-under group, Latavion Madkins earned a bronze medal in the triple jump, while also placing ninth in the high jump.
The girls 16-and-under 1,600 relay team of Tyra Burks, Alexis Barnes, Briana Duplechain, Eboni Smith and Sydnee Seward won the Xtreme Speed's other gold medal in a time of 4:04.72.
There were several other near-misses in that same age division for Rowlett. Barnes was third after preliminaries in the 400 meters but was edged out and took fourth in the finals.
Smith was fifth in the 100 meters, while Tia Albritton was seventh in the high jump.
The 400 relay team of Daria White, Barnes, Smith, Albritton, Seward and Duplechain finished in fifth place.
The girls 12-and-under 1,600 relay team won a silver medal in a time of 4:35.06. That group consisted of Briana Bell, Peyton Lewis, Sydni Lewis and Brittany Clark.
The final medal winner for the Xtreme Speed was Keviah Ealy, who earned a bronze medal by taking third place in the 100 meters in the girls eight-and-under division.
