Canine Companions for Independence, a nonprofit organization that provides assistance dogs to people with disabilities completely free of charge, will hold a free community event for military veterans, active-duty service members, their families and friends on Saturday, September 29, from 11a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Eisemann Center for Performing Arts in Richardson. COMPANIONS SALUTES INDEPENDENCE will feature family-friendly activities and will highlight Canine Companions’ Wounded Veterans Initiative, which was established to increase placements of assistance dogs with disabled veterans. The event is free and open to the public. See assistance dog demonstrations, meet puppies in program, hear live music and enjoy all-American refreshments. Visit www.cci.org/salutes for more information. No pets please; working dogs and puppies in program are welcome.
