Collin College Welcomes Playwright and Performance to Campus

The Collin Theatre Center in the Fine Arts Division at Collin College is elated to present the regional premiere of Rust by Austin Bunn.
Performances are at 8 p.m., Thursday-Saturday, Oct. 4-6 and 10-13 and at 2:15 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 7 and Saturday-Sunday, Oct. 13-14. All shows will be at the John Anthony Theatre at Collin College�s Spring Creek Campus, 2800 E. Spring Creek Parkway, Plano. Tickets are $10 and seating is general admission. Tickets can be purchased at www.collintheatrecenter.com.
Rust, a documentary play created by Austin Bunn in collaboration with Working Group Theater, is drawn from hundreds of hours of interviews with the people whose lives were changed when General Motors closed its plant in Wyoming, Mich. in 2008.Rust is an illuminative, provocative and probing play directed by Gail Cronauer that asks the question, �What happens when we wake up from the American dream?�
In addition to the the performances of Rust, the theater department will welcome the Cornell University playwrting for lectures and masterclasses held at the Spring Creek Campus of Collin College.
According to Chair of Theatre, Shannon Kearns-Simmons, "[Austin] will bring to our students and community a glimpse into the creation of a new work, and how that process can change a person's life".
Bunn is a scholar working in the areas of creative writing, dramatic writing and fiction, and has joined the department this past summer as an assistant professor in dramatic writing and screenwriting at Cornell University.
Bunn, who received the Iowa Arts Fellowship to the Iowa Writers� Workshop at the University of Iowa, received his M.F.A. in playwriting and his M.F.A. in fiction from the University of Iowa. His theses were Versus, a full-length comedy, and The Brink, a short-story collection. Bunn received his B.A. in American Studies from Yale University.
His recent publications include �A Killer Life: How an Independent Film Producer Survives Deals and Disasters in Hollywood and Beyond,� �Bonsai Kitten,� a story in Monster Manual, �What Gets Saved,� in Ghosttown, �Bromosexual� in The Advocate, and �Curious Father� in Bloom.
This year�s presentation of Rust culminates in a visit and lecture by the playwright at Collin College. The dates are:

All lectures and master classes are free and open to the public. A reception will follow the master class on October 12th.
