Raul Rogers Albarez, Sr., age 71, of The Colony, Texas, went to be with the Lord on September 28, 2012, in Denton, Texas.
Raul, also known to his family and friends as Rudy, was the eldest of five children born to Catarino and Aurora (Rogers) Albarez, Sr. His humble roots began in Lamesa, Texas on April 28, 1941.He served his country in the Army from 1963-1965 and was honorably discharged.
After graduation, he accepted a job with Optic Electronics as a technician and moved the family to Dallas, Texas. That is where he met many lifetime friends.
His passion was music. A self-taught musician, he composed many songs and sang them at local talent shows throughout his life. Though he was very reserved, Rudy could "wow" a crowd when on stage. He was so excited when he won first place at the talent show at the Lewisville Senior Activity Center in 2011.
Rudy simply enjoyed spending time with family by going out to dinner or hanging out over a cup of coffee with friends. He particularly liked going home to West Texas where most of his family still resides.
At the age of 71, Rudy came to accept the Lord into his life and is now rejoicing in all the rewards of heaven. His greatest and proudest legacy is his grandchildren.
He is survived by his daughters, Stella Albarez Oefinger and husband, Michael of McKinney, Texas and Marsha Dickson and husband, Gary of The Colony, Texas; son, Raul Albarez, Jr. and fiancé, Sara Pilchiek also of The Colony, Texas; granddaughters, Shannon Dickson-Bloxham and husband, Jason of Concord, New Hampshire, Kellee Dickson of Dallas, Texas, Breanna Dickson of The Colony, Texas, and Emily Oefinger of McKinney, Texas; grandson, Kary Albarez of The Colony, Texas; great-granddaughter, Alanna Dickson Coleman; sisters, Vera Villa of Denver City, Texas and Lois Amador and husband, Ruben of Troy, Texas; brothers, Ruben Albarez and wife, Pam of Denver City, Texas and Jr. Albarez, also of Denver City; and numerous other loving family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Catarino and Odie Albarez, nephews Leroy Stanford and Brett Villa and many others before them.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, October 3, 2012 at 4 p.m. at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Chapel in Allen, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association, www.diabetes.org/honor.
