Bobcats host Celina Invitational

The Celina cross country team welcomed 12 other schools to town for the Celina Invitational meet Saturday morning.

The Bobcats (49 points) came away with a second-place team finish while the Lady Bobcats (112 points) took fifth.

Pilot Point (43) and Frisco Lone Star (64) took top honors in the boys and girls team standings.

On the boys side, Van Alstyne’s Evan McQuirk paced all runners with a finishing time of 17:04.58. Not far off the winning mark was Celina’s Luke Haynes and Ivan Torres, who crossed the finish line at 17:48.98 and 17:52.23, respectively. The times earned Haynes and Torres a fourth and fifth-place finish.

Cooper Harris also cracked the top 10 for Celina, finishing the race in 18:30.45.

Stori Smith led the Lady Bobcats with a ninth-place finish after coming in at 13:31.84. Smith finished behind the first-place time of Alix Lambke (12:51.55) from Whitesboro.

Clare Melder completed the top 20 finishers for the Lady Bobcats, finishing in 14:09.90.

The team will be back in action Saturday morning for the Melissa Invitational.
