Friday, Rep. Tan Parker, R-Flower Mound, issued a reminder to Denton County residents that Tuesday is the last day for a person to register to vote in the upcoming November general election. During the 2008 presidential election, Denton County far outpaced the statewide average for voter turnout, and Parker wants to ensure that the county's voice is heard loud and clear in this election as well.

"Having the opportunity to choose our elected leaders is the most cherished right that we enjoy," Parker said. "This November election will be tremendously important for the future of our state and our nation, and I encourage every person eligible to vote in Texas to become registered and to participate in this process."

Texans can verify their voter registration or find information on how to register to vote by visiting the state's website, www.votetexas.gov. Denton County residents can register to vote in person by visiting the county's Election Administration office, located at 401 West Hickory, Suite 125 in Denton.

Voter registration applications are also typically available at libraries, government offices, high schools and by visiting www.votetexas.gov.

Initially elected on Nov. 7 of 2006, Parker represents both rural and urban parts of Denton County which encompasses the cities of Flower Mound, Highland Village, Pilot Point, Argyle, Aubrey, Dish, Krugerville, Sanger, Cross Roads, Krum, Ponder, Justin, Lantana, Northlake, Copper Canyon, Double Oak, Bartonville, Trophy Club, Roanoke and portions of Lewisville, Fort Worth and Southlake.

Serving in his third term in the Texas Legislature, Parker is focusing his efforts on economic development, job creation, strengthening border security and immigration policy, promoting fiscally responsible government spending, providing a strong public education system and protecting family values. Parker is the current Vice Chairman of the Rules and Resolutions Committee. He also serves on the Corrections and Urban Affairs Committees.
