LLELA offering home school natural science classes

The Lewisville Lake Environmental Learning Area will host classes this fall specifically for home school students. Students will participate in hands-on outdoor activities related to the day's theme. Each day will have separate sessions for second- through fifth-graders and for students sixth grade and up. The fee is $10 per class, or $35 for the whole series of four classes.
The dates are:
* Oct. 8, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.: Nature Quest (2nd-5th grade, 6th grade and up)-Search LLELA for significant sites and develop a quest for others to follow. Students incorporate history, biology, botany, ecology and more into a nature treasure hunt.
* Oct. 25, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.: Wet Wonders (2nd-5th grade, 6th grade and up)-Explore Bittern Marsh with nets, microscopes, binoculars, and more as we learn about the ways in which animals, plants, and humans depend on wetlands.
* Nov. 8, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.: Planting the Seeds (2nd-5th grade)-Close examination of seeds reveals incredible diversity. Students learn seeds inside and out and participate in a plant restoration.
* Nov. 8, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.: Nature CSI (6th grade and up)-It's a crime against nature. So, whodunit? Kids assume the roles of detectives, sketch artists, forensic photographers, and technicians as they investigate the circumstances surrounding the demise of one of the wild denizens of LLELA.
Participants should bring a sack lunch and a refillable water bottle, and wear long pants and closed-toe shoes. Parents may choose to attend with their students, or may drop students off after signing a waiver. Younger siblings are welcome to tag along, so long as they are adequately supervised by a parent during class time. Classes will be rescheduled in the event of rain.
The Lewisville Lake Environmental Learning Area is 2,000 acres of prairies, forests, and wetlands managed as a wildlife preserve by a group of agencies including the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the University of North Texas, the City of Lewisville, Lewisville ISD, and Texas A & M University.
