Former councilman announces bid for mayor

Published: Tuesday, November 13, 2012 7:47 PM CST
Former city councilman and frequent board and commission member Harry LaRosiliere announced intentions to run for the office of mayor on Tuesday.

A Plano resident and financial advisor since 1994, LaRosiliere served on the council from 2005-2010. He said serving as mayor would be the highest level of community service he could offer following his career on the council.

"Having served six years on council, I have a good understanding of how things run in the city and how to get things done," he said. "I've been very involved in the community, so [I understand] what the needs are of my citizens and have a passionate commitment to serve."

On his website, LaRosiliere outlines a three-point plan for Plano: continue an aggressive economic development strategy, set a strategy of "renovation and partnership" for aging residential and commercial properties, and maintain city services while seeking to improve their efficiency.

"If I become mayor, I think definitely having a targeted strategy for economic development, where we are able to provide a myriad different incentives for businesses so we can create job opportunities [will be a priority]," he said. "As it relates to the improving commercial and residential properties, I think we have to look at establishing plans and strategies that will allow us to partner with business owners and residential areas to provide different incentives for them to invest in their properties."

The front page of LaRosiliere's website includes rolling testimonials from three-time Plano Mayor Pat Evans, former Plano ISD trustee Judy Trotman, Plano Councilwoman Jean Callison and Steve Matthews, past chairman of the Plano Chamber of Commerce.

"I have worked with Harry for many years," Evans is quoted as saying on the website. "He has a rare ability to dissect complex problems, break them down to understandable dimensions, then help people work collaboratively on finding solutions where everyone is a winner. His intelligence, openness and passion for Plano will make him an outstanding mayor."

LaRosiliere currently serves on the CASA of Collin County Advisory Board and the president's council for Texas Health Resources Plano. He resides in Plano with his wife, Tracy, and two daughters. For information on LaRosiliere's campaign, visit www.harry4mayor.com.

"I'm excited at the opportunity," LaRosiliere said of his mayoral bid. "Service for me on the municipal level is more of a calling than a career, so if I'm fortunate enough to earn the spot as mayor of Plano, I will do everything in my power to make it a better city than it is today."
