Education notes for Lewisville ISD

Students make region band


During Region Band Compeition Oct. 27 Huffines and DeLay Middle School students competed against the best musicians on their instrument from district middle schools including Grapevine-Colleyville and Carroll ISDs.

"It is very difficult to make these groups and quite an honor for these students to be selected," said Richard Stephens, Huffines band director.

Nine HFMS students, eight eighth-graders and one seventh-grader were selected: Madeleine Gutierrez, Katherine Skidmore, Sebastien Desamour, Mikaela Desamours, Bruce Labedis, Kaitlin Stewart, Lydia Seagraves, Reid Cox, and Lindsey White.

Students make all-region choir

On Oct. 27, choir students auditioned against the best singers from schools across the district including Grapevine-Colleyville, Carrollton-Farmers Branch, Carroll, Frisco and Lake Dallas ISDs. Congratulations to future Farmers Jay Teamer, Lindsey White, Cami Ferrell, Sarah Murphy, Savannah Kochell, Haylee Odom, Danny Cepeda, Ulises Moreno, Reid Cox and Kaitlin Stewart.

Donations for hurricane victims

The Marcus swimming and diving team are working together to help those effected by Hurricane Sandy. Gently used coats and new socks to can be taken to Room K104 in the sports hall. These will be donated to the Red Cross and Salvation Army to be distributed to those in need on the New Jersey Coastline.

In addition to these items the swimmers will be in the lunches to collect donations to be sent to the Red Cross for these victims. This donation drive will run through Monday.

Driver Education course

Lewisville ISD offers a Driver Education course that includes 32 hours of classroom instruction and seven hours of behind-the-wheel driving and seven hours of behind-the-wheel observation.

Driver Education for the winter of 2013 will be held at Flower Mound, Hebron, Lewisville, Marcus and The Colony high schools. Classes begin Jan. 23 and continue through Feb. 13, with a make-up day on Feb. 14.

Instruction takes place from 4-6 p.m. at Hebron, Lewisville and The Colony high schools and from 4:30-6:30 p.m. at Flower Mound and Marcus high schools. The driving phase of the course begins Feb. 16 and continues through April 26.

Instructors are current or retired LISD teachers who have driver education certification and a passion for teaching students safe driving habits and skills.

Enrollment applications are available at the main high schools, the Hebron 9th grade center, the LHS Killough and LHS Harmon campuses and at LISD's Campus Support Services office, 701 S. Charles St. in Lewisville.

Tuition fee of $335.00 must be received at the CSS office by Jan. 22.

MHS Madrigal Dinner
