Holiday at the Hall welcomes holiday season
From staff reports
Lewisville will kick off the Christmas season with its annual Holiday at the Hall celebration Saturday in Old Town Lewisville.
The day will start at 8 a.m. as Greater Lewisville Kiwanis Club holds its annual Breakfast With Santa, serving pancakes, sausage and juice in the Recital Hall of the MCL Grand, 100 N. Charles St. Tickets are $1 for children ages 2 and younger, $3 for children ages 3-12, and $5 for guests ages 13 and older. Breakfast will end at noon.
Santa Claus will be on hand from 8:30 to 11:45 a.m. in the Gallery at MCL Grand to meet with children and pose for photos. Breakfast tickets also include one Santa photo ticket per family. Additional photos, or photos without the purchase of a breakfast ticket, are $6 each. Children's crafts will be available in the MCL Grand classrooms. Children can create free handmade crafts with City volunteers, and also can make a decorated holiday ornament for $5 with the Greater Lewisville Kiwanis Club.
The 14th annual Motorcycle Toy Run will start registration at 9 a.m. and participants will leave Old Town at 11:15 a.m. for a parade through Lewisville. Riders will return to Old Town after completing the course. Van Gogh's Ear, fresh off a well-received Sounds of Lewisville concert last summer, will perform before and after the run on an outdoor stage at the corner of Charles and Main.
Entry fee is one new unwrapped toy (minimum $10 value) to be donated to Denton County Foster Parents Association, Denton County Child Protective Services and Children's Advocacy Center for Denton County. Pre-registration is available at Frederick P. Herring Recreation Center, 191 Civic Circle, or Memorial Park Recreation Center, 1950-B S. Valley Parkway. The first 200 registrants will receive a 2012 Motorcycle Toy Run pin. Registration includes lunch after the run, provided by Fuzzy's Tacos.
The 2012 Christmas Parade, sponsored by Sam Pack's Ford Country of Lewisville, will begin at 12:30 p.m. at the corner of Main Street and Cowan and will proceed through Old Town on Main to Mill, then south to Purnell. Parade entry applications are available online at CityofLewisville.com. Kiwanis will sell hot dogs along the parade route on North and South Poydras Street Plaza at Main Street. All proceeds benefit community projects conducted by Greater Lewisville Kiwanis Club.
Old Town Business Association and Old Town Preservation Society will hold a holiday stroll from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. Local businesses along Main Street will have children's activities centered around the popular "Elf on the Shelf," with most activities being free of charge.
Activities for all ages will include the annual Gingerbread House Contest, with houses on display during the Christmas Stroll. Entries can be delivered to We+You, 135 W. Main St. from 8 a.m. until noon and again between 4 and 5 p.m., with judging at 5 p.m. Awards will be presented in four categories - elementary school, middle school, high school, and adult. Winners will be announced at the Old Town Christmas Tree Lighting. All entries will remain on public display at MCL Grand through Dec. 25. For entry fee information call 972-436-4806 or email kentgellis@msn.com.
Decorative holiday windows, created by a commercial designer, will be on display in businesses along Main Street during the Holiday Stroll, with the official unveiling at 4 p.m. Santa visits will be at Robert Payne Photography, 112 W. Main St. Santa visits are $5 for a digital picture (one picture per family).
At 5:30 p.m., children of all ages are invited to Wayne Ferguson Plaza and Main Street to help light Old Town. This lighting will include businesses in the Old Town district and several Christmas trees including a 52-foot artificial tree on the north side of Main Street in the heart of Old Town Lewisville.
Admission to the celebration is free. Public parking is available at Lewisville City Hall, 151 W. Church Street, and at public lots on Elm Street and Kealy Street.
