Boo-tiful event: City ghosts its annual family event
By Kenny Green, kgreen@acnpapers.com
The Rowlett Parks and Recreation Department is hosting its annual Boo Bash event from 6 to 9 p.m. on
Friday, Oct. 26 at the Rowlett Community Center, 5300 Main Street.
"This is an opportunity for safe trick-or-treating," said Angie Smith, recreation services manager.
The cost to attend the event is $5 per child. There is no cost for the adults. The event is designed to
accommodate children from age two to 12. Tickets are available at the community center or online at
www.rowlett.com.
The event is designed to allow families to have somewhere to come and celebrate the Halloween weekend in
a safe environment.
"The event should be very similar to what we have had in the past," Smith said.
The event features several activities including cookie decorating, trick-or-treating and a costume
contest that returning attendees will remember from last year. There will be a haunted hallway for the
younger children to experience.
"We have a downstairs hallway that we decorate and make it a kid-friendly haunted house type
environment," Smith said.
The event will include a haystack ride that will allow participants to take a tour of Pecan Grove Park
in a safe outdoor setting.
"The parks and recreation staff set up some trailers with hay that we use to take participants on a
three minute ride along the trail through the park," Smith said. "We have several elements along the
trail to make sure the people have a good time. It all focuses on being family-friendly. Hopefully the
trail ride will be bigger and better than last year. One of our goals is to have it grow and become
better than the previous year."
