10-4A BOYS BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT ROUNDUP: Pirates drop three straight at Garland Tournament

Poteet is hoping to build momentum for the start of the 10-4A season, but last weekend was not a good time to do so as they dropped all three games at the GISD Curtis Culwell Invitational.
The Pirates' best chance at a win came in the finale on Saturday against North Mesquite. But despite a strong second half in which they outscored the Stallions 29-21, the comeback effort came up just short in a 43-42 loss.
Chris Murphy had 17 points to pace the offense, with Khalil Arnold adding 11.
Poteet dropped its other two games to a pair of 11-5A teams, including a 55-44 loss to North Garland on Friday. The Pirates, who got 11 points from Arnold, trailed by only one at halftime before the Raiders reeled off a 17-6 spurt to take control.
It was a similar story on Thursday, except Naaman Forest used the first quarter to seize momentum with a 14-5 run on its way to a 49-39 victory.
The Pirates did not have any players in double figures and were led by eight points from Armand Duckett.
West Mesquite got off to a strong start at the Mansfield ISD Spring Creek Classic with a 61-58 victory over Killeen Shoemaker.
The game was tied through three quarters, but the Wranglers scored 21 points in the final frame to eke out the win. Braylon Rayson had 25 points to lead West Mesquite, with Jalen Etienne also in double figures with 11.
The Wranglers also dropped a 66-49 decision to Mansfield Legacy on Friday.
