College Street hosts 28th annual Thanksgiving event

Every year, Lewisville senior citizens look forward to College Street Elementary's Thanksgiving luncheon and when the school hosted its 28th annual "Thankful for the U.S.A." themed event Nov. 8, attendees were not disappointed by their experience.
Kindergarten and first-grade art students created placemats and decorations, third-grade music provided the entertainment, fourth- and fifth-grade student council officers served as attentive waiters and waitresses, PTA provided centerpieces that were given away as door prizes and College Street staff coordinated the event.
"This is a service project our school looks forward to every year," Principal Cynthia Jaird said. "It provides an opportunity for us to begin teaching students what it means to work together toward a common goal and make a positive impact on the community."
"Thank you all for attending today," Rick said to attendees during introductions. "We are excited to honor you this afternoon and with Veterans Day just around the corner, we thought this program would be appropriate."
Third-graders in Amanda Stout and Christian Lee's classes then performed "American Everyday," "Grateful to be American," "Oh, I Love America," "Thank a Vet," "Stars and Stripes Forever" and "Thankful for the U.S.A."
More than 35 seniors attended the event.
