'A Christmas Carol' performance set
The Actors Conservatory Theatre will present "A Christmas Carol" at 2 p.m. Sunday, at 7 p.m. Friday, and at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday at the Crawford Center for the Arts, 1720 S. Edmonds Lane. Tickets are $12 for adults and seniors, $10, children under 10 and $9 for groups of 15 or more.
The musical extravaganza ran for ten years at Madison Square Garden. In 2004, this version became the basis of an NBC Hallmark Entertainment special featuring Kelsey Grammar as Scrooge. Tickets are available on-line at getintotheact.org and at the box office 30 minutes before each show.
Denton Community Theatre will present 'It's a Wonderful Life,' adapted for the stage by James W. Rodgers, and based on the film by Frank Capra, as its Christmas production.
The story follows George Bailey as he spends his life sacrificing his dreams to run a small Savings and Loan for the good of his home town, Bedford Falls. One Christmas Eve, however, he is broken and distraught over misplacing a large amount of money and is sure to lose everything to the millionaire, Mr. Potter. He is ready to end it all until his guardian angel; Clarence, falls to earth to help him see what would have happened to all the people that he cares about had he never been born.
Director John Evarts has a large cast of DCT veterans and newcomers of all ages to bring Bedford Falls to the Denton stage. Performances are at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 7, 8, 14 and 15 and at 2 p.m. Dec. 9 at The Campus Theatre, 214 W. Hickory St. in Denton. Tickets are $20 for adults, $18 for seniors citizens and $10 for students and children. Seating is reserved. 'Pump Boys & Dinettes' to be performed
Our Productions Theatre Co. will present "Pump Boys & Dinettes" at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, at 8 p.m. Friday and Dec. 21, at 8 p.m. Saturday and Dec. 22 and at 2 p.m. Dec. 16 and 23. Performances will be at the Medical Center of Lewisville Grand Theater, 100 N. Charles St.
On Highway 57, somewhere between Frog Level and Smyrna, stands a gas station. Across the blacktop is a roadside eatery called the Double Cupp Diner. The four guys at the station, Jim, Jackson, Eddie and L.M., have been known to do some auto repairs, but only when aided by quantities of time and beer. The Cupp sisters, Prudie and Rhetta, celebrate their home cooking with the same zeal they bring to being neighbourly with the boys. This is their country western, musical tribute to life by the roadside.
Ticket for the Thursday, Friday or Sunday performances are $25 and tickets for Saturday performances are $30. There is a $3 discount for students, seniors, children and a 10 percent discount for groups of 10 or more.

Community theater group to present show
The Greater Lewisville Community Theatre will present "Sanders Family Christmas" at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 16 and a special Thursday performance of selected shows at 8 p.m. Performances will be at the Greater Lewisville Community Theatre, 160 W. Main St.
It's Christmas Eve, 1941, in Mount Pleasant, North Carolina, and in this sequel the Sanders Family of Smoke on the Mountain fame are back at the Baptist Church to bring some holiday spirit to the congregation before the boys ship out to World War II. More than two dozen carols and vintage hymns are performed and hilarious yuletide stories told by the Sanders family, keeping the audience laughing, clapping and singing along with the bluegrass Christmas favorites. It was written by Connie Ray, conceived by Alan Bailey, musical arrangements by John Foley and Gary Fagin and directed by Bill Sizemore.
All shows have reserved seating. Call 972-221- 7469, leave a message and the box office manager will reserve seats for you as requested. Leave a call back number and a theatre representative will call you if there is any problem (like sold out, etc). Be sure to indicate if you need special seating arrangements such as wheelchair or other accommodations. Payment for the tickets is paid for at the show. Cash or checks only.
Tickets are $18 for musicals and $15 for non-musicals.
Christmas show set
The 3 Redneck Tenors will present its "Christmas SPEC-TAC-YULE-AR" from Dec. 20-23 at the Medical Center of Lewisville Grand Theater, 100 N. Charles St.
Shows start at 7:30 p.m. each night, plus a 2:30 p.m. matinee on Dec. 23. Tickets are $25 for adults, $20 for students and seniors, $15 for children ages 8 and younger. Group discounts are available. Tickets can be purchased online at 3RedneckTenors.tix.com. Advance tickets cannot be purchased at MCL Grand.
The musical concert is performed by the same cast of the 3 Redneck Tenors - a New Musical Adventure that's been a big hit around the country. These real-life Broadway and opera stars are ready to warm your holidays with a classic, pop and deep-fried fest of musical delights.
Those singing trailer park angels are packing their festive Christmas mullets and will be dashing through the snow just in time for some down-home holiday cheer with "3 Redneck Tenors Christmas SPEC-TAC-YULE-AR," written and directed by Matthew Lord with musical arrangements by award winning composer Craig Bohmler. The show currently is running at The Mansion Theatre in Branson, Missouri.
Symphony announces International Strings Competition
Adron Ming, Music Director/ Conductor of the Lewisville Lake Symphony, announced a new competition for college musicians planning a professional career in music. It will focus on piano in even-numbered years and strings in odd years. The first competition, held in 2013, will be for strings.
First Prize is $2,000 and includes an invitation to perform with the Lewisville Lake Symphony at the opening concert of the 2013/2014 season in September 2013. The prize money will be awarded at the concert.
Second Prize is $500 and includes the opportunity to schedule a recital on the symphony's International Chamber Series for an additional $250, to be awarded at the time of the recital.
Competition - Preliminary round
The preliminary round will be judged from YouTube videos submitted by applicants no later than midnight Jan. 15.
Final round
The final round will be a live audition on March 9 before a panel of distinguished judges on the campus of the University of North Texas in Denton.
Eligibility
The 2013 Strings competition is open to violinists, violists, cellists, and bassists enrolled at an accredited university, college, or conservatory that are between the ages of 18 - 24 on the March 9 audition date.
There is a non-refundable application fee of $75. Contestants must provide their own accompanist or use one provided by the symphony for an additional $75. Transportation and accommodations are the responsibility of the contestants and of the winners performing in Symphony Series and International Chamber Series concerts.

Jam sessions scheduled
Weekly open jam and song circles are held every Friday at Tierney's Café & Tavern, 208 E. Main St. All acoustic instruments and levels are welcome. All music genres are welcome. Acoustic Fridays are sponsored by the Visual Art League of Lewisville.
Symphony releases schedule
The Lewisville Lake Symphony has announced its 2012-13 symphony series schedule, with four programs being held in the performance hall at Medical Center of Lewisville Grand Theater.
On Feb. 22, the symphony will showcase outstanding young talent with music selected by the grand prize winner of the Vernell Gregg Young Artists' Competition, in addition to Mozart's La Clemenza de Tito Overture and Haydn's "Clock." There will be one performance starting at 7:30 p.m.
The season will conclude with performances April 19 and April 21. The program will include selections from Elgar and Shubert, featuring violinist Shannon Lee. The Canadian-born musician made a stunning orchestral debut in 2005 with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra when she was just 12 years old, and later performed as a featured soloist during the DSO's Texas Tour. She has performed extensively both in the United States and Europe, and currently is a junior at Columbia University. Show times are 7:30 p.m. Friday, and 2:30 p.m. Sunday.
Individual show tickets are $25 for adults and $20 for seniors on Friday nights; $20 for adults and $15 for seniors on Sunday afternoons; $10 for students at all shows; and $10 at all shows for active duty military personnel returning from combat deployment, along with their families.
