Mrs. Edward (Betty Jane Brundage) Tafel of McKinney, Texas, passed away October 31 at the Plaza at Edgemere.
She is survived by her daughter Jacqueline, her son Robert and his wife Lara, and her granddaughter Mimi, all of whom reside in Dallas, Texas.She was one of two daughters born to Eldin and Reva Brundage of Rochester, New York. After finishing John Marshall High School, Betty went on to obtain a teaching degree at SUNY Geneseo. After that she moved to Rochester, NY, and obtained a master's degree in teaching and a Ph.D. equivalent in library science at The University of Rochester.
While in Rochester, Betty worked at the library at the University of Rochester and then held positions teaching in elementary education from the first through fifth grades in both the Irondequoit and Penfield ISDs. Later on she became a reading consultant for the SUNY Boces institute and developed a speed reading course for SUNY and implemented it in the upstate New York area.
Ed and Betty achieved true happiness by balancing work, play, family, and faith. Their love and passion for friends and family brought many people into their home. Betty was very active in tennis and golf, church and the community. Whether she was playing tennis at Eldorado Country Club in McKinney or at Irondequoit Tennis Club in Rochester, NY, Betty loved the competition and friendships she created.
She was active in her churches, Laurelton United Presbyterian, Rochester, NY, as well as First United Methodist Church, McKinney, Texas.
Betty loved her times with the Owl Club, Book Review, and the Heard Museum.
If anyone ever asked what Betty loved the most, the answer would always be children. She loved to teach and had a passion to make a child's life better each and every day. She loved life, her kids, and most of all Ed, to which she will be with now and forevermore.
She truly was a very kind, generous, and gentle spirit. All of us will miss her greatly.
