Breakfast with Santa


The Celina nonprofit organization Fidelis Inter Se will be hosting Breakfast With Santa from 8:30-10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 8 at Celina Elementary School. The event will feature a breakfast of pancakes, sausage, milk, juice and coffee, in addition to pictures with Santa Claus. The cost is $3 for children and $4 for adults. Pictures with Santa are $5.

Celina Elementary is located at 550 S. Utah Dr.

Shopping Galore craft show hits downtown Celina

Celina Main Street will host the Spirit of Christmas Shopping Galore, a free holiday bazaar that will be held from 9 a.m.. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 8 at First Baptist Church. Vendors will have booths set up in the church gymnasium, and the event will also feature children's activities, including face painting, a balloon artist, a toy soldier stilt walker, puppet shows and photos with Santa. There will also be a screening of The Nativity Story at 7 p.m.

Poetry contest open to all county adults, students

The Mockingbird Chapter of the Poetry Society of Texas is holding a poetry contest with categories for Collin County adults; county public, private and home school students (K-12); and chapter members. Winners in the student competition will be selected from each grade level.

The contest ends Jan. 19 and winners will be announced in March.

Contestants can enter one poem written in any style on any subject, but it must be an original work that does not exceed 28 lines. A poem that has been published anywhere other than a school publication is not eligible. Contestants must retain a copy of their poems, as submitted copies will not be returned.

Contestants must submit two copies of the poem and write the category they wish to enter (Student including grade level, Adult or Mockingbird Member) in the top left corner of both copies. In the top right corner of one copy, they must write their name, address, city and zip code. Adults must also include their email address. Students must include their age, the name of their school and a teacher's name and email address.
