11-5A GIRLS BASKETBALL: Eagles take down Sachse to move to 2-0

Rowlett had a chance to make a statement against defending district champion Sachse on Friday and the Eagles did exactly that.
Rowlett jumped on the Mustangs from the opening tip and held off a late comeback charge to post a 67-62 victory.
The Eagles improve to 2-0 in 11-5A play and remain tied for second place with Naaman Forest, while Sachse slips to 1-2 heading into the Christmas break.
The Eagles led by seven after one quarter and pushed the advantage to 40-27 by halftime.
Sachse tried to make a late push, doubling up Rowlett 22-11 in the fourth quarter but it was not enough.
Taylee Alexander scored 18 points to lead the Eagles, while Dominique Oliver and Taylor Dupuy added 15 and 11 points, respectively.
Monica Dorsey led all scorers with 23 points for the Mustangs, while Makyla Isler was also in double figures with 12.
Lakeview remained alone in first place at 3-0 with a win over South Garland on Friday and it maintains a half-game lead over Rowlett and Naaman Forest, which destroyed North Garland.
Sachse is in a tie for fourth place with South Garland at 1-2, followed by Garland and North Garland, which are each still searching for their first district wins.
The 11-5A teams will take a break for the Christmas holiday. After competing in tournaments on Thursday through Saturday, they will return to action on Wednesday when Rowlett hosts South Garland, Sachse travels to play Garland and Naaman Forest and Lakeview meet in a key early-season showdown.
