HV council approves site plan for Whole Foods
From staff reports
At Tuesday's meeting, the Highland Village City Council unanimously approved the site plan amendment for the Shops at Highland Village to allow the construction of Whole Foods.
The new Whole Foods building will have a footprint of 38,251 square feet in addition to a second floor mezzanine of 6,000 square feet that will accommodate a seating area for dining and a potential wine and cheese bar.
The 44,251-square-foot building will be constructed on the southeast corner of the Shops at Highland Village. The exterior of the store will enhance the existing Shops at Highland Village by complementing the existing buildings with stone, a wood terrace and live screening as green walls on the exterior of the building.
To accommodate for the building, one existing building at the center will be removed, with the tenant, Coldwater Creek and Coldwater Creek Spa involved in negotiations with the owners for relocation within the facility.
Demolition and construction is planned to begin in May with Whole Foods opening sometime in 2014.
During the meeting councilmember Fred Busche stated, “Whole Food’s will bring a new shopping experience to Highland Village that will provide the finest natural and organic foods available, they maintain the strictest and highest quality standards of any grocery store, and they have an unshakeable commitment to sustainable agriculture, which meets the desires of the resident of Highland Village”.
During the city manager report, the HVTV update informed residents online registration is now open for the Father & Daughter Dance to take place Feb. 8 at Celebrations Grand Ballroom.
The update also informed residents of the Resolution Run; a 5K Run/Walk & 2K Four-Legged Friend Run presented by the City of Highland Village and the Highland Village Parks Foundation. Presenting sponsors for the race this year include the Medical Center of Lewisville, Terra Firma Racing and ABC Pest Control.
