Fans flock to Frisco Square

Frisco's city officials have done a great job getting major businesses to relocate to the city -- that's no secret. But besides the business relocations, city officials have also attracted several entertainment venues that benefit both residents and city visitors.
One of the prime entertainment locations in the city is Frisco Square, located just a stone's throw from City Hall. It's no secret Frisco Square had some financial difficulties during the recession, but with the development going through bankruptcy proceedings now things can hopefully get back on track and development can continue at the location.
Frisco Square was on full display at last weekend's NCAA Division I Football Championship Game between Sam Houston State and North Dakota State, as it was a major attraction for the city's guests when the game wasn't taking place.
Prior to and after the game, thousands of fans of both teams made their way through the development to eat, shop and lounge. Other areas around the area also attracted fans, such as The Londoner Pub, but Frisco Square is where fans flocked to the majority of the day.
There's good reason for that. The design of Frisco Square promotes walking from one location to the next, and there's enough variety that fans found something for everyone.
"We don't really have anything like this up north," one Bison fan told me the day before the game. "It's nice to be able to have this open space to walk around with friends before the game."
Everyone I talked to enjoyed Frisco Square -- there simply wasn't a negative reaction to Frisco's most iconic location. Fans enjoyed the variety of restaurants as well as the unique atmosphere and hospitality of patrons.
With a bankruptcy reorganization plan put in place last month, Frisco residents can get excited once again about the potential development improvements at Frisco Square.
As part of the city's approval of the reorganization plan, City Manager George Purefoy said Behringer Harvard, the developer behind Frisco Square, will be required to build 720 structured parking spaces -- likely in the form of a parking garage -- which will help the area grow even more.
As fans who attended the football championship game found out, Frisco Square's an attractive destination for visitors of the city. With the economic situation surrounding the development back on track, visitors of the city and residents alike have a lot to look forward to.
