Fare and service changes effective in January

Published: Friday, December 21, 2012 2:24 PM CST
The Denton County Transportation Authority (DCTA) will implement fare and service changes that will be effective Jan. 14. The changes will allow DCTA to better accommodate passengers while staying aligned with regional transit partners.

Among the service changes are two additional trains that have been added to provide weekday trip opportunities. In order to fill the current northbound gap, the new schedule will have a train departing Trinity Mills at 7:26 p.m. In addition, a southbound train will depart the DDTC at 9:15 p.m. This later southbound departure will accommodate students and faculty with night classes and other individuals with later work schedules.

On Friday nights, the current northbound train, departing Trinity Mills at 9:46 p.m., will be pushed back to 10:30 p.m. Additional minor schedule changes will be implemented to improve meet times for A-train passengers.

In Denton, Connect routes 1, 2 and 22 will also see changes in January. Connect Route 1 will be extended to the Unicorn Lake/I-35E service road area of Southwest Denton. Connect Route 2 will have an additional stop serving Sally Beauty on Brinker. In Lewisville, Connect Route 22 will have an extra bus in the morning and afternoon/evening peak period, increasing frequency to every 30 minutes during peak periods.

Passengers should also expect to see changes to DCTA's fare structure on Jan. 14. In October, the board of directors approved changes to the fare structure affecting some local, regional and reduced fares. The fare changes will help balance ridership growth while increasing cost recovery, improve opportunities for travel on the local system, provide regional fare consistency with DART and The T, and also minimize impact on the transit dependent. No changes will be made to Connect, Connect RSVP or Access fares.

Local passengers utilizing the DCTA local system will now be able to purchase a two hour pass instead of a one-way pass, allowing unlimited travel during that two hour time period. This new pass type is valid on the A-train, Connect bus service, Connect RSVP and UNT Shuttle, and is only available for purchase through ticket vending machines located at all five A-train station platforms.

Passengers traveling outside of the DCTA service area and using a Regional pass will also be able to purchase a 2 Hour Pass through ticket vending machines located at the A-train station platforms. In addition to this new pass type, passengers regularly traveling the regional system will see an increase in the monthly and annual Regional Day Pass retail rates, but can benefit from the University Pass Program or DCTA Bulk Pass Program. Pass rates within these programs will not increase in 2013 and passengers are encouraged to contact DCTA for more information on getting involved in one of these programs.
